Putting Disabled Children In The PicturePutting disabled children “In the Picture”!

In The Picture is a ground breaking and innovative Big Lottery funded project by Scope, the leading disability organisation, aimed at promoting the inclusion of disabled children in books for young readers.

There are currently around 770,000 disabled children in the UK who have virtually no role models in the literature they are reading. By identifying with characters in books, children positively learn about themselves and the world around them. The lack of images of disabled children reinforces the sense of isolation they often feel and just as importantly affects the attitude of non-disabled children too.
